❓WTH is spalting?? 🪵 Spalting is used to describe wood with fungi growth in the interior, leaving a unique pattern of dark lines where the fungal colonies meet. It is unknown whether a fallen tree is spalted until it is sawn. You often see lighter colored wood, like maple, with spalting because the unique patterns really pop in contrast.
